The First Featured Documentary Of Ethereum Raised 984 ETH

Ethereum, the second-biggest cryptocurrency, is ready to hit the big screen through its documentary film Ethereum: The Infinite Garden. Slated to premiere in winter 2023, the film will approach Ethereum as an “infinite garden,” laying out its blockchain as a “decentralized ecosystem with soil, plants, and insects.”

The documentary sought to raise 750 ETH to fund the project.  5% of these proceeds would go to carbon offsets and Gitcoin Grants to support open-source Ethereum projects. Only two days after its launch on July 14, the project surpassed the 750 ETH target. While the funding closed at 984.16 ETH (worth roughly $1.94 million) raised from 662 backers.

And that’s a wrap. 984.16 ETH raised for the film. 31.08 ETH to @gitcoin grants. 20.72 ETH to @Carbonfundorg. THANK YOU to everyone who supported, and congratulations to our new producers. Now let’s go make a movie! See the complete set of credits here: https://t.co/qOcezAOj4R pic.twitter.com/1K6fVEGaO8

About the documentary

“Ethereum: The Infinite Garden” will be the first feature-length documentary covering the decentralized blockchain, with the project describing itself as: “A feature-length documentary film that explores the innovative real-world applications of the Ethereum blockchain, the die-hard community of enthusiasts and developers, and its creator, Vitalik Buterin, whose vision for the Internet has the potential to change the world.”

Chris Temple and Zach Ingrasci of Optimist Studios will direct the movie. The documentary also involves many other high-profile figures from Hollywood.

The funding campaign started on Wednesday to support the production of a feature-length, character-driven documentary film exploring the “innovative real-world applications of the Ethereum blockchain, the die-hard community of enthusiasts and developers, and its creator, Vitalik Buterin.”

The project has already established an exclusive filming relationship with Vitalik Buterin and Ethereum Foundation Executive Director Aya Miyaguchi. The project’s official Twitter account revealed that filming with the pair had started a day before the crowdfunding went live.

Film’s production budget will have 95% of the funds. Then 3% as Gitcoin grants to support open-source Ethereum projects. The remaining 2% will be sent as a donation to Carbonfund.org, an initiative to reduce global carbon emissions.

They also dropped a series of Infinite Garden nonfungible tokens (NFT) tied to select on-screen credits in the film. The top three backers have been awarded these three unique NFTs designed by digital artist Pplpleasr, who is known for providing visual work for films like Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman and Star Trek Beyond.
