Coinbase Signed a Long-Term Partnership with NBA

In Brief:

  • Crypto exchange Coinbase teaming up with the National Basketball Association (NBA)
  • Coinbase will sponsor Woman’s NBA, NBA G League, NBA 2K League in the upcoming Basketball season
  • Coinbase will “create interactive experiences to engage with the NBA and WNBA’s incredible community and athletes around the world,”

One of the leading crypto exchange platforms, Coinbase had announced its “long term” partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA), yet the company has not revealed the terms of the deal.

The move seems like a crypto exchange giant wants to increase its expansion by locking up the deal with the basketball team in the upcoming season 2021-2022.

As per the announcement, Coinbase would become an exclusive partner of the National Basketball Association (NBA) including Women’s NBA, NBA G League, NBA 2K League, and the USA Basketball under the sponsorship agreement for “long term”.

“As part of the partnership, we will create interactive experiences to engage with the NBA and WNBA’s incredible community and athletes around the world,” Coinbase Chief Marketing Officer Kate Rouch said in a statement.

“As a trusted cryptocurrency platform used by millions, Coinbase is a natural fit as the NBA’s first-ever partner in this thriving category,” said Kerry Tatlock, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing Partnerships and Media, NBA.  “We look forward to collaborating with Coinbase to provide fans with new ways to engage with the league and each other, while also enhancing the experience for fans who are already Coinbase users.”

As per the verified data, last season, almost 1.6 million people watched NBA season games on the leading broadcasting networks. Coinbase will take advantage of this gigantic number of fans to promote their services as well as to make people aware of the benefits of cryptocurrency in the future.

The NBA’s 75th anniversary season starts Tuesday with a doubleheader as the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks host the Brooklyn Nets. The second game will feature the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors.

The news comes just a week after Coinbase announced the release of its own NFT marketplace, which currently has more than two million users on its waitlist.
