Unstoppable Domains Taps Polygon to Remove Gas Fees for Minting NFT Domains

In Brief:

  • Unstoppable Domains is now live on the Polygon network.
  • This will result in zero gas fees to mint NFT domains.
  • By the end of the month users will be able to create domains on Polygon.

Unstoppable Domains, a blockchain domain, has announced that it’s now live on Polygon network and this would benefit users with zero gas fees to mint NFT domains starting right from 15th Nov.

This would help in reducing the current Ethereum gas pricing and the average customer will save over $200 in gas fees only for minting. Gas fees for minting a single domain name on Unstoppable Domains using Ethereum, for example, might be as high as $100.

We are LIVE on Polygon! 🚀

Phase 1 of our migration to @0xPolygon / @_PolygonStudios, where we’ll be covering all gas and mint fees, is now officially complete 👏

But with Unstoppable Domains paying all subsequent gas payments, the savings may be in the thousands for customers who own many domains or add multiple wallet addresses to their domains.

Unstoppable has completed the first phase of its conversion to Polygon, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution that can reduce transaction times and fees.

The firm started with the Zilliqa blockchain before switching to Ethereum and now Polygon, which bills itself as “the eco-friendly blockchain scaling Ethereum.”

Although Ethereum is actively improving its network to reduce such fees, the timing of the transition is unknown, which may explain why Unstoppable Domains chose Polygon now, as Polygon is built on top of Ethereum.

Since 2018, Unstoppable Domains claims to have registered over 1.5 million NFT domain names through their service. Consumers can acquire domain names with extensions such as crypto, nft, bitcoin, dao, and blockchain, to mention a few.

Unstoppable Domains promises to offer domain management and transfer solutions for those with older Zilliqa and Ethereum-minted domains now that the company has moved to Polygon.

Users will be able to create domains on Polygon with their cryptocurrency addresses by the end of the month, as well as add other features like NFT galleries and social media links. Users will be able to transfer their domains from Polygon to Ethereum sometime in early 2022, however Ethereum gas fees will apply.
