Solana Blockchain Suffered a Third DDoS Attack Earlier Today

In Brief:

  • Solana(SOL), yet again suffered another distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, earlier today.
  • There has been no official confirmation by Solana regarding this event, as of yet.
  • This is the third time in the past six months that Solana suffered a ‘major technical breakdown’.

Solana, the high-performance decentralized blockchain yet again suffered another distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, earlier today.

As per Journalist Colin Wu’s tweet, the users of the official Telegram community informed that the attacker was suspected of using spam to conduct a DDoS attack. However, it also mentioned that the issue was resolved after 7 o’clock (UTC+8) and things went back to normal thereafter.

A DDoS attack sends multiple requests to the victim’s web resource to exceed the platform’s capacity to manage multiple requests and thus, clogs the network and prevents the platform from running properly.

However, there has been no official confirmation by Solana regarding this event, as of yet.

It is worth noting that this is the third time in the past six months that Solana suffered a ‘major technical breakdown’.

In the month of September, a similar network breakdown was reported when Solana crashed and as a result, its native token, SOL, collapsed 13% in value. The network breakdown was due to resource exhaustion in the network that had caused a denial of service.

Three months later, in December, the network was reportedly hit by a second DDoS attack, again due to heavy congestion. Although this time it remained online throughout the attack.

Later, co-founder Raj Gokal tweeted out a clarification saying that there was no DDoS attack. Nevertheless, NFT game SolChicks revealed on Twitter that Chicks NFT were responsible for the performance issues on the Solana blockchain.
