Universal Music to Launch NFT Fan Collections

World’s leading music company, Universal Music Group (UMG) announced its partnership with Curio, an NFT platform for entertainment brands and musical artists to launch NFT fan collections for its record labels and artists.

In Brief:

  • UMG plans to utilize Curio’s technology and exclusive partnerships with this deal.
  • The first NFT project will be with Capitol Music Group’s artist Calum Scott.

Curio will be the global outlet for all future officially licensed NFT projects from UMG’s record labels, operating companies, and recording artists around the world.

We’re excited to announce our partnership with @UMG for its record labels and artists!

This unprecedented deal is only the beginning for entertainment/music NFTs 🚀

UMG is set to create and launch future NFT projects from its global artists and labels by utilizing “Curio’s groundbreaking technology, exclusive partnerships, and innovative fan engagement networks.”

The collaboration will allow for greater scalability and flexibility in producing authentic fan-oriented collectibles that are carefully curated for each project.

Both are in works to release the first NFT issue in March, featuring Capitol Music Group artist Calum Scott.

Michael Nash, Universal Music Group’s Executive Vice President, Digital Strategy stated, “UMG and our labels are focused on developing NFT projects that authentically engage and speak to our artists’ fan bases and new audiences. With Curio, our labels will have a secure and dedicated platform to host these premium projects and provide new opportunities for collectors and fans from around the world to acquire unique pieces, inspired by their favorite artists and labels.”

“Curio is thrilled to be partnered with UMG in the NFT and Web3 space. UMG has a huge catalog with unlimited opportunity to deliver value to fans across the globe. Their brands and labels are historic and iconic. And the digital innovation and Web3 expertise amongst their executives is unparalleled,” Ben Arnon, Curio’s Co-Founder & Co-CEO noted.

Ofcourse this is not UMG’s first move into the NFT space, as the music corporation has already formed a metaverse group titled called Kingship using four characters from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection. UMG also confirmed plans to create NFTs based on the band that can be used to gain special access to events, with current BAYC NFT holders getting first dibs.
