The world’s third oldest airlines also announced that each digital asset will be unique and can be bought, owned, sold or collected.

Qantas Group chief customer officer Stephanie Tully said, “A Qantas NFT collection allows us to engage the next generation of aviation and digital art enthusiasts, leveraging blockchain technology to celebrate our heritage and future.”

In a world-first, initial buyers of the NFTs will earn Qantas points. However, only members of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program can earn and redeem Qantas points. Qantas also promised more benefits for the NFT holders. The airline encouraged interested buyers to register.

Qantas also clarified the fact that all the NFTs will be released using net zero emissions on low-carbon platforms and using carbon offsetting.

Qantas is the second airline in the world to drop NFTs. AirBaltic, the flag carrier of Latvia, was the first.

AirBaltic’s NFT collection was dropped in February 2021 and featured different Latvian towns to honor the Latvian centenary in 2018. They launched 100 unique NFTs, each with a fixed price of 0.05 ETH.
