Nigeria's Central Bank Now Offers Bill Payments in eNaira

The Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), eNaira will offer the option of bill payment after the latest upgrade.

Last year the Nigeria’s President officially launched the country’s CBDC, the eNaira and the CBN has been making progress towards developing and making eNaira more convenient.

The slogan of eNaira is “Same Naira, more possibilities” is proving to be true as CBN is going to reportedly allow locals to pay their bills, TV subscriptions, and flight tickets using the CBDC, eNaira.

This move is part of a campaign that is focusing on popularizing the CBDC and motivating people to use it regularly in their daily transactions.

This announcement was made during the eNaira campaign held at the Kairo market in Oshodi Lagos. Furthermore, Kayor revealed that the USSD code for the eNaira is *997#.

To promote eNaira the financial institution partnered up with Bizi Mobile, a mobile banking company. Bariboloka Koyor the Branch Controller at the CBN said “Starting from next week, there is going to be an upgrade on the eNaira speed wallet app that will allow you to do transactions such as paying for DSTV or electric bills or even paying for flight tickets.”

The eNaira is aiming to be a tool that will be used by the government in the future to distribute funds that they want to give to reduce poverty.
