Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson revealed at the Consensus 2022 conference that a Barcelona hotel is the first business in the world to accept ADA.
Cardano Boutique Hotel Ginebra in Barcelona’s heart is supported by Cardano (ADA). Alfred Moesker, one of the owners of the hotel, stated that they began accepting ADA as a payment option in 2017.
Charles Hoskinson, also a co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain, gave a keynote address to 1800 people attending the Cardano Community event in Austin, addressing the origins of the Barcelona hotel with a Cardano theme.
“Y’all ever been to Barcelona? There’s a hotel there from Alfred [Moesker]. He’s an IOG man, and he came to our very first IO summit that we held. And he showed up, we had dinner together, and he said, ‘you know, I’m just gonna convert my hotel into a Cardano-themed hotel’. I was like, ‘oh sure’. Now, it is! There are pictures and paintings. It’s called Hotel Cardano. You pay in $ADA,” remarked Hoskinson excitingly.
To enable the Cardano community even more, Moesker also started the Cardano Hotel Podcast and runs the HOTEL Cardano stakepool. He is also a co-founder of the CNFT portal ‘The Art Suite’, which is an NFT platform.
The hotel owners said that they changed the name of their establishment from “Boutique Hotel Ginebra” to “Cardano Boutique Hotel Ginebra” because they “believe so much in the more equal and honest systems that Cardano is developing.”
