The Luxury brand, Gucci dons ‘Ape avatar’ as it becomes the first major brand to accept ApeCoin payments in selected United States stores via BitPay. ApeCoin is the native token of the Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem.
The move will prove to be instrumental in providing the ApeCoin project with prominent mainstream exposure and adding more utilities to the cryptocurrency. As for Gucci, the decision is yet another step in the luxury House’s exploration of Web3.
Now, customers in the United States will be able to buy Gucci in-store items with APE, and the payment support will be provided by BitPay. BitPay is a firm that has also provided payment infrastructure for AMC Theaters to allow crypto payments.
As a result, ApeCoin joins the list of other cryptocurrencies accepted by Gucci namely Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Wrapped Bitcoin, Litecoin, Shiba Inu, Dogecoin, and five stablecoins pegged to the US dollar.
BAYC community has embraced this decision with open arms as one BAYC Twitter user, NBATopShotEast claimed to be the first person to make ETH payment for shopping at Gucci’s store in Wooster Street location in New York City.
