Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Calls Out Pro-Bitcoiner Pierre Poilievre

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau indirectly calls out pro-bitcoiner Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative Party head, who is now gearing up to battle Trudeau for the PM position in the 2025 federal election.

The Prime Minister of Canada declared in a Twitter thread that his party will continue to cooperate with Conservative Party members but will not be afraid to call out “questionable, reckless economic ideas” that they promote.

We’ve made every effort to work with all Parliamentarians over the years, and we’ll continue to do so. But we’ll also call out questionable, reckless economic ideas – because Canadians deserve responsible leadership.

Although Trudeau did not name Pierre Poilievre, he did label certain things Poilievre has been vociferous about as poor leadership. Only a few days ago, Canada’s Conservative Party elected Pierre Poilievre as its leader.

“Telling people they can opt out of inflation by investing in cryptocurrencies is not responsible leadership,” Trudeau emphasized.

Throughout his Conservative Party leadership campaign, Poilievre chastised the Bank of Canada for its reckless spending during the COVID-19 pandemic, threatening to fire its governor, Tiff Macklem.

Poilievre has accused Trudeau and his finance ministers of Canada’s high inflation, claiming that the money spent by the government on income and business support was more to blame than global events such as the Ukraine war.

Poilievre expressed his support for cryptocurrencies last winter, suggesting to Canadians that investing in Bitcoin might allow them to “opt-out” of inflation.

If elected, he promised to make Canada the “blockchain capital of the world” and to halt the proposed Canadian CBDC project.

Meanwhile, Justin Trudeau’s government was already intolerant of the cryptocurrency sector. In February, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin condemned the Canadian Government’s moves for trying to constrain the funding for the protesting truckers’ rally show, saying that such events demonstrate why cryptocurrencies exist.
