Nike’s RTFKT Launches First Native Web3 Sneaker: "Cryptokicks iRL"

Leading sports apparel brand Nike’s RTFKT Studios launches the first-ever major web3-IRL sneaker: “Cryptokicks iRL” showcasing RTFKT’s vision to merge the digital and physical realms.

From December 12 to 16, only 19,000 pairs of the Cryptokicks iRL sneakers will be available in total for purchase for RTFKT Lace Engine NFT owners in private minting.

The public draw registration will be done from December 7 to December 9. The process of private minting starts on Monday, December 12; the process of public minting begins on Wednesday, December 14.

The Cryptokicks iRL sneaker comes in four futuristic colorways: “Blackout,” “Ice,” Stone,” and “Space Matter,” and each sneaker comes with an NFT that shows the colorway spinning in space.

Due to advanced tech and product regulations, the Cryptokicks iRL can only be shipped to the United States, and this has invited criticism from the rest of the community.

Users will be able to mint and forge up to 4 total Cryptokicks iRL sneakers in the public mint, 1 of each of the 4 colorways, while the supply lasts. Forging is the process where users can redeem limited made-to-order physical products with the NFTs.

For the total volume to be minted and forged before the beginning of the public sale, all Lace Engine NFT holders would need to mint and forge, and all RTFKT MNLTH 1 holders would need to open their Monoliths to get their Lace Engine NFTs and do the same.

For Lace Engine NFT Holders:

  • Blackout: 0.34 ETH
  • Stone: 0.38 ETH
  • Ice Mag: 0.46 ETH
  • Space Matter: 0.76 ETH

For Draw Winners for the Public Mint:

  • Blackout: 0.44 ETH
  • Stone: 0.5 ETH
  • Ice Mag: 0.53 ETH
  • Space Matter: 1.02 ETH

The Cryptokicks iRL features auto-lacing, enhanced lighting, haptic feedback, gesture control, walk detection, App connectivity, AI/ML algorithms, and wireless charging via the RTFKT Power deck.

The RTFKT sneakers will also have a move-to-earn feature. The sneakers include RTFKT’s most recent WM (World Merging) NFC chip, which enables users to validate each physical copy’s legality by comparing it to its digital equivalent.

RTFKT Co-Founder Chris Le noted “This is the storytelling phase of RTFKT. This is probably a stretch, but I really believe we’re going to crush the Marvel Cinematic Universe down the road. We’re making sure all plot holes are filled because we’re trying to set the tone and environment for our community to come in and add to the story.”

RTFKT Co-Founder Steven Vasilev added “I think we’re the first brand to fuse fashion, sneakers, and crypto in a way that hasn’t been done before. What we’re trying to build is a platform for new designers and new collaborators to come in. We want to build with our community.”
