SBF denies being part of ‘Wirefraud’ Chat Group before his Arrest

Sam Bankman-Fried took to Twitter just hours before news of his arrest by Bahamian police to deny any participation with or knowledge of a secret group chat “Wirefraud.”

If this is true then I wasn't a member of that inner circle

(I'm quite sure it's just false; I have never heard of such a group)

— SBF (@SBF_FTX) December 12, 2022

Wirefraud is rumored to be a chat group involving high-ranking executives of FTX and Alameda. The news of the “Wirefraud” chat group exitance was widespread after the Australian Financial Review reported it.

It was alleged that “Wirefraud” was a chat group on the messaging app Single and included members of SBF’s inner circle. To name a few, FTX co-founder Zixiao “Gary” Wang, FTX engineer Nishad Singh and former Alameda CEO Caroline Ellison.

The AFR reported that the “Wirefraud” chat was used to send secret information about FTX and Alameda’s operations during its failure.

In response to the allegation, SBF said on Twitter that if the group chat was “true” he “wasn’t a member” and was “quite sure it’s just false” as he had “never heard of such a group.”
