KIA NFTs Find Homes for Over 22,000 Shelter Animals

Automobile manufacturer Kia America announced it provided $100,000, raised from the sales of its robot puppy NFTs, and an additional $500,000 to the Petfinder Foundation to successfully find homes for 22,422 shelter animals.

According to the announcement,  Kia created a number of NFTs based on “Robo Dog,” the robotic puppy that served as the focal point of the automaker’s Super Bowl commercial for the all-electric Kia EV6.

The Petfinder Foundation received 90% of the primary sales proceeds from these NFTs, which helped animals in need find their forever homes.

The first 10,000 “adoption pass” NFTs to be claimed were made available for free on Tezos and then 10,000 more generative variants went on sale.

On the Sweet NFT marketplace, the $20.22 NFTs all sold out on the same day, bringing in $100,000. When a Robo Dog NFT is sold again in secondary markets, a clause in their smart contracts calls for a 10% creator royalty to be paid to Petfinder Foundation.

A Kia spokesperson stated that the Sweet NFT marketplace was chosen for their overall knowledge of Kia’s brand direction, and their user-friendly platform that enables payment options outside cryptocurrency.

Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, at Kia America, stated “Kia is dedicated to giving back and helping more than 22,000 shelter animals find new homes is proof that initiatives like this work and improve local communities, in this instance by easing the burden of overcrowding on local animal shelters nationwide.”

“We are so honored to partner with Kia America. Their generous donation helped countless animals find loving and forever homes in 2022,” noted Toni Morgan, Executive Director of the Petfinder Foundation.
