Starknet Nears EVM Compatibility with Kakarot Testnet Launch

Starknet, the zero-knowledge layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, is making significant strides towards full Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility with the upcoming launch of Kakarot, a new zkEVM, on the testnet in August.

Backed by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Ledger co-founder Nicholas Bacca, and Starkware, Kakarot aims to address the barrier to entry posed by Starknet’s lack of EVM compatibility.

We have powered up and entered Super Saiyan mode⚡. Kakarot Labs has officially been incorporated and closed a pre-seed round with top-tier investors.

While Starknet offers efficient scaling for decentralized applications, transactions, and computation on Ethereum, its use of the Cairo language has hindered adoption for developers accustomed to Solidity and the EVM.

Kakarot seeks to bridge this gap by enabling Starknet to become EVM-compatible, allowing developers to seamlessly transition their existing Solidity code to the Starknet ecosystem.

This move would eliminate the need for separate development teams and costly code audits. The idea for zkEVM was introduced during a Starkware conference, and the Kakarot team worked tirelessly to complete the project without any venture funding.

The upcoming launch of the Kakarot testnet in August will allow developers to experience the benefits of EVM compatibility within the Starknet ecosystem.

With the support of industry leaders and the enthusiasm of Vitalik Buterin, Starknet and Kakarot are poised to further advance the Ethereum ecosystem by enhancing scalability and accessibility for developers.
