Binance Upgrade: Deactivate Certain Deposit Addresses

Binance, one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges, is getting ready for another significant upgrade to its wallet infrastructure. The exchange has issued a warning to its users regarding an upcoming address migration, signaling a proactive step towards enhancing their wallet services.

On July 6, Binance officially announced its plan to retire selected deposit addresses in batches as part of a network address migration scheduled for Q3 2023. This wallet upgrade will impact a total of 40 cryptocurrencies, including prominent digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), XRP, Solana (SOL), Monero (XMR), Litecoin (LTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Cardano (ADA), Polkadot (DOT), and more.

Binance, the popular cryptocurrency exchange, is undergoing an address migration process and will deactivate memos, also known as destination tags. Memos are crucial for identifying transaction recipients beyond wallet addresses, especially on centralized exchanges like Binance.

The exchange will notify affected users to obtain new addresses and memos. Users who haven’t received an official notification should continue using their current deposit addresses.

The announcement highlights, “Only impacted users who receive notifications from Binance are required to obtain a new deposit address and memo — if applicable — before the expiry date.” It further clarifies that old deposit addresses will expire upon obtaining a new address.

Importantly, funds deposited into expired addresses will not be lost. However, unlike regular deposits, deposits made into expired addresses will not be automatically credited. Users will need to manually credit them via the transaction history page.

Binance regularly upgrades its wallet infrastructure to enhance efficiency and fund security for its users. In April 2023, the exchange conducted a similar wallet upgrade, disabling old deposit addresses for Ether, several Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible coins, and BNB.

As Binance prepares for its upcoming wallet infrastructure upgrade, users are advised to stay informed and follow the instructions provided by the exchange. These proactive measures aim to ensure a seamless transition and improved user experience. Binance’s commitment to better efficiency and fund security showcases its dedication to maintaining a reliable and secure trading platform for cryptocurrency enthusiasts worldwide.
