SBF To Probe Lawyers' Connection In $200M Alameda Loans

Ahead of the starting of the second week in court trial, SBF’s lawyers want to question FTX co-founder Gary Wang regarding his views on legal advices from Alameda lawyers.

According to a filing, the legal team of SBF wants to cross-examine Wang while they have already probed the FTX co-founder with questions regarding $200-$300 million of personal loans that he received from Alameda. Sam’s lawyers claim that Wang used these funds to make investments in different companies and purchase a house in the Bahamas.

Through this letter, the lawyers have requested the court permission to further question Wang regarding his reliance on lawyers.

SBF attorneys said that Wang’s reliability on FTX lawyers over the loans is “directly relevant to Mr.Bankman-Fried’s good faith and lack of criminal intent.” The letter also highlighted that Wang said he relied on lawyers and he would not be told by lawyers to sign something that was illegal.

Previously, SBF has also pleaded not guilty in fraud charges brought against him and now the legal team claims that company counsel’s involvement in loan agreements suggest that his “loans were not improper.”

With the start of the second week on Tuesday, the court trial will move forward with testimony from SBF’s ex-girlfriend and the former head of Alameda Research – Caroline Ellison. Gary Wang is expected to finish his testimony and answer questions from defense attorneys after Caroline’s testimony.
