Indian state Mumbai’s International Airport reportedly received an email on Thursday, containing a threat to detonate an explosive at Terminal 2 demanding one million dollars in Bitcoin, according to the police.
The police report states that the mail was delivered to the feedback inbox of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at approximately 11 am on Thursday. The airport is operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL).
The threat mail read: “Subject: Blast. Text: This is a final warning to your airport. We will blast Terminal 2 within 48 hours unless one million dollars in Bitcoin is transferred to the address. Another alert will be after 24 Hrs.”
The sender of the email is asking for $1 million in Bitcoin within the next 48 hours to prevent an explosion.
The FIR was registered at the Sahar police station and a probe was launched, an official said. An unidentified individual has been charged under the Indian Penal Code for creating fear of harm to coerce extortion (Section 385) and making statements to cause fear or alarm to the public or disturbing public tranquility (Section 505(1)(b)).
