Bitcoin mining pool OCEAN has denied accusations by wallet provider Samourai of censoring certain Bitcoin transactions. Samourai Wallet shared a Twitter (X) post on December 7 and claimed that OCEAN has enacted a policy of censoring Whirlpool coinjoin and BIP47 notification transactions.

Samourai mentioned Jack Dorsey, who was a lead investor in OCEAN’s latest fundraise, and Luke Dashjr, the founder of OCEAN, highlighting the issue by referring to it as their “hostile actions.”

We can confirm that @ocean_mining has enacted a policy of censoring Whirlpool coinjoin transactions and BIP47 notification transactions as of Dec 6, 2023

This is a regrettable action by the operators @jack and @LukeDashjr and far surpasses any hostile action we have seen before

— Samourai Wallet (@SamouraiWallet) December 7, 2023

However, Luke Dashjr replied that it’s not an intentional policy from the mining pool and the issue is within the wallet’s software. Luke argues on exceeding the standard size of datacarrier which is 42 bytes.

The post from Samourai wallet has heated a conversation against mining pool operator OCEAN and Luke Dashjr, who is already criticized for his stance of removing Ordinals from the Bitcoin network.

“Whirlpool users have been creating, broadcasting, and relaying standard bitcoin transactions since we released Whirlpool in late 2018 without any issue. Miners have been relaying and mining these transactions in blocks without any issue,” said the Samourai team in the post, “Ocean is choosing to pursue a very slippery slope in their decision to exclude privacy enhancing transactions.”

Implemented by the Samourai Wallet team, Whirlpool is an innovative method of creating collaborative transactions on the Bitcoin network which produces identical results.
