Taproot Wizards, an art collection inscribed by Bitcoin Ordinals, claims to have found a method for Bitcoin enthusiasts to remove certain inscriptions from their Bitcoin software.
Rijndael, the pseudonymous chief technology officer of the company, said in a post on December 26 “Merry Christmas, ord disrespectoors! I have a gift just for you! This [script] will rid your node of inscriptions.”
Rijndael explained that the script was created so nodes could refuse blocks containing inscriptions. He further elaborated that if a majority of nodes adopt this behavior, miners would opt to work on a chain without inscriptions, or they might sell in a less prominent market.
James Check, Glassnode’s lead analyst, also known as “Checkmate” on X, believes that the software created to challenge Ordinals is unlikely to gain much popularity, despite some strong critics of the Ordinals system.
Check stated that the software’s primary purpose seems to be to show that most people criticizing Ordinals are actually in the minority. He mentioned that using the software can effectively disable a user’s node because it identifies valid transactions as invalid.
Check described this situation as a representation of the ongoing deadlock in Bitcoin’s governance. Additionally, Rijndael, the individual behind the software, mentioned that it took him only about 15 minutes to develop it. He also acknowledged that the script can be bypassed simply by altering an Ordinal fingerprint.
