Kraken Wins Dutch VASP License for Crypto Services

The Dutch Central Bank (DNB) has allowed a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registration to the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange, as announced on 08 February. This registration enables Kraken to provide crypto exchange services in the Netherlands.

Another milestone in our European growth strategy – Kraken received a registration from the Dutch Central Bank 🤝

We look forward to welcoming all the new Dutch clients that are looking for an easier, better & more secure crypto experience.

The VASP license emphasizes Kraken’s responsibility for regulatory compliance and its ambition to broaden its impression across Europe. Kraken’s European expansion strategy is gaining momentum with existing licenses in Spain, Italy, and Ireland.

The Netherlands, known for its high fintech adoption rate and significant crypto ownership among its citizens, presents a promising market for Kraken. The company’s recent addition of the Dutch crypto broker BCM enhances its ability to serve the Dutch market effectively.

Kraken is experiencing legal difficulties in the United States, as evidenced by a lawsuit filed against it by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in November, accusing the cryptocurrency exchange of lacking proper registration.

Nonetheless, Kraken asserts that its operations in the U.S. continue without disruption. This situation underemphasizes the different regulatory environments facing crypto exchanges in Europe and the United States, with recent developments emphasizing these contrasts.
