Etherscan Introduces PopUp Reminder To Verify verify addresses.

The popular Ethereum block explorer Etherscan has revealed an update, a new PopUp reminder feature, that will prompt the user to confirm if an address is duplicated from specific low-value token transfers.

The announcement was made on the X on Feb 16, stating that these addresses, used in low-value token transfers, could be faked, leaving users vulnerable to assaults known as address poisoning.

Scammers frequently transfer small amounts of genuine tokens, such as USDC, from false addresses in the hopes that their targets may unintentionally copy the false address and transmit money to it in a subsequent transaction.

According to Blockaid’s data, there have been over 105,000 dust attacks since the year’s beginning. These attacks have led to 33 events wherein 591 ETH, or almost $1.7 million, have been lost collectively. To protect against spoofing scenarios, Etherscan introduced this reminder feutre to the user.

Etherscan also said that these reminders could also show up for legitimate transfers of low-value tokens. It also said,  “Use it as a reminder to double-check instead of a warning.”
