Matthew Perry’s X Account Hacked by Crypto Scammers

The late American actor Matthew Perry’s X account had allegedly been hacked. A recent Instagram post from the Matthew Perry Foundation suggested that the celebrity’s account redirected users to “a fraudulent website featuring a scam associated with an unauthorized donation via cryptocurrency.”

The Matthew Perry Foundation was set up to honor him after the star’s death at age 54 in October last year and is devoted to combating addiction.

Perry famously played Chandler Bing on Friends and openly discussed his own rehab and soberness journey. His cause of death was ruled to be an accident from ketamine use.

The foundation urged donors not to donate to the fraudulent site but only through the official MatthewPerryFoundation.org.

Targeting Perry’s foundation seems like a tactic to capitalize on his fame and fans’ goodwill to swindle cryptocurrency donations. As digital assets gain traction, hackers leverage crypto payments for online scams.

This demonstrates that platforms must have vigilant security to protect accounts, especially deceased figures, from exploitation. While Perry may be gone, his spirit lives on through the foundation, battling the addiction that ultimately led to his death.
