Base backs EIP-4844 immediately after Dencun upgrades

The Ethereum network is preparing for a significant milestone with the upcoming Dencun upgrade, scheduled for March 13. This upgrade introduces EIP-4844, a novel concept of “blobs” within Layer 1 blocks designed to enhance data availability without impacting existing infrastructure.

Ethereum Layer 2 Base states that it is also pleased to roll out its support for the upcoming Dencun upgrade from day 1. According to Base, the upgrade can significantly decrease the cost of transactions related to Layer 2 solutions, with the possibility of a reduction of over ten times. Rollups could be especially affected, as they might cut their fees.

We’re getting close to a major milestone on the journey to a better internet

With the upcoming Dencun and Ecotone OP Stack upgrades, gas fees will be radically reduced for users of Ethereum L2s like Basehttps://t.co/LDAaXBWtxQ

The deployment of Dencun is forecast to impose fewer fees on Layer 2 users so that applications in sectors such as on-chain gaming and on-floor exchanges on order books will be more widely accepted by many individuals. Base’s given numbers reflect a great cut in the fees paid, which is one more argument that the Layer 2 solutions are scalable and cheap.

Following Dencun, the Ecotone OP Stack upgrade will extend its benefits to the Optimism Superchain ecosystem, which includes Base, Mode, Zora, Aevo, and Fraxtal, further enhancing the user experience and cost-effectiveness of these Layer 2 solutions.

Other prominent Layer 2 projects, such as Polygon, zkSync, and Arbitrum, have also expressed optimism about the potential fee reduction after Dencun, underscoring the significance of this upgrade for the entire Ethereum ecosystem.

As the crypto space continues to evolve, initiatives like Dencun highlight the industry’s commitment to addressing scalability challenges and enhancing user experiences through innovative solutions.
