A New York judge has issued a gag order on former president Donald Trump, prohibiting him from making any comments about potential witnesses, attorneys, court staff, or jurors in the forthcoming criminal trial related to hush money payments. Judge Juan Merchan pointed at Trump’s delivery of intimidating, inflammatory, rude statements targeting certain individuals, such as jurors.
The gag rule forbids Trump to harm witnesses like his previous attorney, Michael Cohen, and adult film star Stormy Daniels, who’s testifying to the committing of a crime. However, it does not mean he is prohibited from making comments related to New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg or the Honorable Judge Merchan.
This verdict is dished out in the midst of Trump’s enduring assault on the judge and the people involved in the case. Merchan emphasized that the gag order aims to ensure fair administration of justice by preventing interference with the case and trial process.
Trump’s trial, expected to take place on April 15, will focus on the dispute over the false business record covered to make hush money payments that happened before the 2016 election. Despite pleading not guilty and denying involvement with Stormy Daniels, Trump faces 34 counts in the case. Similar restrictions have been imposed in his other legal battles to limit his extrajudicial commentary and maintain the integrity of the legal process.
