Solana devs issue v1.17.31 mainnet beta update to tackle network congestion. The update, released on April 12, has been tested for three days and is now recommended for general use by mainnet beta validators.
The patch aims to ease congestion and improve Solana’s network performance. It introduces several key upgrades, including the ability to differentiate between staked and non-staked packets, a more efficient packet aggregation system, a banking stage forwarding filter, and tighter controls on the minimal streams per 100ms for staked nodes.
Anza, a Solana developer, has advised validators to upgrade to the latest patch only when the stake is less than 5%. This cautious approach ensures a smooth transition and minimizes potential disruptions.
Solana network experienced congestion, leading to a 75% transaction failure rate due to high activity and memecoin frenzy. While developers were working on a fix, a co-founder of Solana clarified that the ongoing issues were merely bugs rather than fundamental network problems.
Solana Foundation acknowledges block space demand and delayed patches causing congestion. Austin Federa, strategy lead, notes developers’ efforts but admits demand surpasses intervention speed. With the initial patch release and future updates planned, Solana developers aim to boost network performance and tackle congestion issues.
