Unstoppable and Blockchain.com Collaborate for Web3 Domains

Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com are joining forces to create one of the first Web3 domains compatible with web browsers and email, submitting an application to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

With this new partnership, unstoppable and blockchain.com together aims to introduce the “.blockchain” domain, with Blockchain.com initiating the application process in preparation for the new generic top-level domain (gTLD) registration round.

The application window opens in April 2026, following the launch of the Applicant’s Guidebook next year. If successful, the .blockchain domain will become part of ICANN-registered gTLDs, including .com, .net, and .org, leveraging Blockchain.com’s vast user base of 40 million verified users. Blockchain.com has facilitated the creation of over 90 million crypto wallets and managed more than $1.2 trillion in crypto transactions.

Unstoppable Domains COO Sandy Carter said, “We are thrilled to partner with Blockchain.com on this ambitious venture, our alliance is poised to start with a Web3 domain to test and deliver a low-cost solution. This is a step towards ensuring we can plan and strategize for the upcoming ICANN work.”

Bridging Web2 and Web3

This collaboration follows a similar initiative by Ethereum Name Service (ENS), which integrated browser-compatible “.box” domains in April. The .box domain, approved by ICANN, is the first on-chain gTLD included in the ENS manager app alongside .eth. Domains on .box are searchable and indexable on major browsers like Google Chrome and Safari, and compatible with leading email services.

Web3 domain names, offering an alternative to the traditional Domain Name System (DNS), simplify transactions by mapping human-readable names, such as “alice.eth,” to complex crypto addresses. The collaboration between Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com could pave the way for additional Web3 TLDs to have their own Web2 equivalents, bridging the gap between Web3 domains and the conventional Internet.
