F1 McLaren gets blockchain boost

The McLaren Artura GT4 supercar will employ blockchain technology to get real time data analysis on the performance of the vehicle during race test at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchaps in Belgium.

The twin turbocharged V6 engine supercar will be equipped with a blockchain powered data tracker which will help gain data points on over twenty parameters including vehicle ignition timing, braking, oil pressure, engine temperature, steering angle, and rotation, as well as gear switching, in real time. This revolutionary approach has been made possible due to a collaboration of Race Lab, one of the racing teams, with Minima, a layer 1 blockchain solution company and Influx, a data acquisition platform.

The data collected will be then analyzed by a team of engineers and drivers of Race Lab ahead of the scheduled race at the famous Spa race course in Belgium also known as Circuit de Spa-Francorchaps.

The blockchain powered tracker was recently put to test on a supercar during a race test in U.K.

Race Lab team manager Oliver Plucknett revealed the importance of data analytics in motorsport. He said, “Blockchain technology is being widely adopted throughout all major data-driven industries, and motorsport would fall behind if we didn’t start looking into the wide number of benefits it provides.”

Advantages of Blockchain in Racing

Blockchain’s role extends beyond performance metrics, offering a secure method to ensure data integrity and compliance with racing standards. After races, the immutable nature of blockchain allows quicker validation of the cars’ adherence to specs, streamlining the post-race review process that typically takes hours.

Furthermore, blockchain’s application extends beyond technical performance to fan engagement. Race Labs is exploring ways to leverage blockchain to create digital collectibles, tokens, and immersive experiences for fan

Incorporating blockchain bolsters race operations and enhances fan engagement by sharing live data streams, potentially expanding into sim racing markets. This blockchain technology application promises to transform the operational dynamics of racing teams and the overall fan experience by providing new insights into the sport’s intricate details.
