Nigeria to Upskill AI and Blockchain

Nigeria announced a major program to educate 1,000 youths annually in blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) among other cutting-edge technologies. This project fits with the larger national digital transformation agenda.

Vice President Kashim Shettima formally opened the AI Expertise Blockchain and Technology Training and Outsourcing Initiative in Jigawa on July 23. This move underscores Nigeria’s commitment to becoming a leader in the tech space.

Government Partnerships and Financial Support

The Nigerian government has collaborated with the technology company Gluwa to carry out this ambitious training initiative. This collaboration intends to provide Nigerians with training in AI, blockchain, and other technologies.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also declared a financial grant of 150,000 Nigerian nairas ($90) to help micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. This money is supposed to help the nation create a robust fintech environment.

Vice President Shettima stressed that Nigeria is not only catching up but is poised to overtake other world economies. The effort is meant to generate a worldwide workforce that will propel future innovation.

Focus on National Digital Transformation

Shettima stressed that the project would be embraced all around to create a tech center network. These centers will help Nigeria’s economy flourish for the next decades.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) unveiled plans earlier this month to set up research centers emphasizing newly developing technology. There will be distribution of these facilities among the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, underlined the agency’s aim to create a robust technological research ecosystem. This program is supposed to greatly improve Nigeria’s capacity to develop technology.

The intended study areas will be essential ones like additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Inuwa revealed the creation of a special-purpose vehicle to supervise these important sectors and guarantee the effective application of the research facilities. This action is supposed to stimulate Nigerian economic development and creativity.

Nigeria’s latest plan to train citizens in modern technologies represents an important step toward digital transformation. The country intends to strengthen its technology workforce and research ecosystem through strategic collaborations and financial support. This decision places Nigeria as a tech industry leader, promoting innovation and economic prosperity.
