Breaking Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Taken to Paris Court

The founder and CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov, saw a major change in his legal circumstances on August 28 when he was brought from detention to a court in Paris.

According to the report of RIA Novosti, a Russian news agency, Durov was brought before the court at about 1:00 PM UTC.

The French news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) confirmed the report, citing a source familiar with the case, and stated that Durov is being taken to a Paris court as his initial detention period comes to an end.

On August 24, Durov was first held at the airport in Paris, Le Bourget. According to RIA Novosti, two cars with bright lights were seen leaving the National Anti-Fraud Bureau swiftly earlier today. This is believed to be a sign that Durov has been transferred to the court.

The CEO was in front of the investigating judge, who will decide if formal charges need to be filed. The ruling of the investigating judge may result in additional legal action being taken against Durov.

Durov’s imprisonment was part of a court investigation into many severe allegations, and it was originally scheduled to last up to 96 hours, from August 25 to August 28.

These accusations include operating cryptology services without authorization, money laundering, criminal affiliation, and cooperation with illicit actions. As part of a larger investigation to identify unidentified people connected to comparable crimes, the French investigators have been closely examining Durov.

Later in the day, the Parquet de Paris, the Paris prosecutor’s office, is expected to make a statement on Durov’s case. Details about any prospective charges and the upcoming stages of the legal process are anticipated to be included in the announcement. This occurs when interest in Telegram and its activities is growing.

It will be interesting to observe how the Paris judicial system handles this issue as it develops and what it means for Durov and Telegram. The result of Durov’s court hearing today might have a big effect on both Telegram’s operations going forward and his legal status.
