Sonic Blockchain Achieves 720ms Transaction Finality in Testnet Phase

The Sonic blockchain has achieved a transaction finality time of 720 milliseconds (ms) during its testing phase, which makes it one of the fastest blockchain networks around.

Finality in blockchain means a transaction is permanent and can’t be undone once it’s recorded.

Andre Cronje, the Chief Technology Officer of Sonic Labs and creator of the Fantom Network, shared this update on September 8 citing that Sonic has a response time of 400 ms and finalizes transactions in just 720 ms.

Unlike other blockchains that need several confirmations to ensure a transaction is secure, Sonic completes this process in a fraction of the time.

“Sonic has 400ms responsiveness, perfect for real-time events, and 720ms true finality,” Cronje said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Although Sonic is still in its testnet phase, Cronje believes it could become the fastest blockchain when it launches its mainnet.

Currently, Solana is the fastest mainnet blockchain, with a transaction finality of 12.8 seconds. However, Sonic’s testnet numbers have to outperform Solana in this area.

Another key feature of Sonic is its developer-focused approach. Up to 90% of the gas fees generated by the network will go to developers, making it an appealing platform for blockchain builders.
