Indian city Ahmedabad is modernizing by seeking technology partners to develop a blockchain-based system for document management.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) aims to develop a blockchain-based system to improve the management of key documents, including birth certificates, death certificates, and fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs). The basic goal of this program is to phase out the antiquated manual processes that have long hampered efficiency and confidence in document verification.
The new blockchain-based system will enhance document authenticity and security, particularly for transactions involving Transferable Development Rights (TDR), which are often complicated.
Blockchain’s decentralized nature will also reduce the chances of fraud and streamline operations, making it easier for users to access and verify documents. This could be especially transformative for heritage properties in Ahmedabad, where TDR has been used for conservation and redevelopment initiatives.
AMC’s decision to leverage blockchain also includes plans for automating processes, secure user authentication, and integrating historical records with modern digital documents.
