Tether, Tron, and TRM Labs has frozen $100M in crypto crime

The T3 Financial Crime Unit, a partnership between the stablecoin giant Tether, TRON blockchain, and blockchain intelligence company TRM Labs, has frozen over $100 million in criminal assets across five continents worldwide, achieving a significant milestone.

T3 has established itself as a leading model for public-private partnerships in blockchain security, it has teamed up with law enforcement agencies to fight against cryptocurrency-related financial crimes.

Established in August 2024, the group works closely with law enforcement agencies worldwide to disrupt organized schemes that utilize blockchain transactions.

It searches on-chain activity, identifies suspicious patterns, and teams up directly with authorities to intercept illegal transfers related to money laundering, investment fraud, blackmail, and terrorism financing.

Justin Sun, the founder of TRON, highlighted that this milestone underscores the increased scrutiny regarding the potential misuse of USDT on the TRON platform.

He stated that the initiative’s impact demonstrates that there are clear consequences for attempts to exploit stablecoins for illegal activities. Sun remarked, “Criminals now have 100 million reasons to think twice before using TRON.”

Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether, emphasized the practical benefits of collaboration between the private sector and public authorities, indicating that ongoing efforts are focused on strengthening security standards across various jurisdictions.

According to Tether, the T3 FCU has monitored over 3 billion USDT in transaction volume, scanning a wide range of cross-border transfers for evidence of criminal intent.

Ardoino noted, “By working closely with authorities across jurisdictions, Tether has been instrumental in freezing criminal assets and ensuring that bad actors do not exploit stablecoins like USDT.”

As reported, Investigators believe that reaching the recent milestone of $100 million establishes a new baseline for future efforts.

Tether is currently reviewing pending cases in collaboration with law enforcement partners across multiple countries, focusing on closely scrutinizing transactions that exhibit known risk factors.

This proactive approach by Tether demonstrates the potential of public-private partnerships to improve security and accountability within the digital asset space.

However, By working closely with law enforcement agencies worldwide, Tether is poised to redefine integrity for transparency and operational integrity in cryptocurrency transactions.
