TON Core, the development team behind The Open Network (TON) blockchain, has revealed its 2025 plans.
According to the announcement, the most significant improvement in the 2025 plan is the “Accelerator” mainnet upgrade. It will introduce some very important features, including support for a partial lite-server in the config.json and overlays for collators. It will also allow validators to connect collators into the overlay.
Collator-validator configuration tests will be performed in testnet, both with and without collated_data enabled. The update will also fix issues such as large collated data when calculating storage stats and will introduce queues to collated_data.
TON Core will also introduce a new idea known as optimistic collation under the update. Collators will pre-generate and forward blocks to validators beforehand, which will make things more efficient.
To make things better for validators, some new tools will be provided. Among them is the restore-from-backup feature of MyTonCtrl. This feature helps a validator switch to a different server in emergency situations promptly. Telegram bots will also be provided to inform validators about their status, penalties, updates, and voting involvement.
There will also be a web dashboard. It will indicate the current list of validators, how they perform, and their vote status. There will be more documentation to aid new validators to start and remain active. As for security, TON Core is working on improving validator penalties and developing a new version of TON Proxy to further protect against DDoS attacks.
Additionally, the team is developing a new payment network based on payment channels, the Layer 2 payment network. It will offer instant transfers for low fees and frictionless asset exchange, according to the initial TON whitepaper.
In addition to this, the new programming language TOLK 1.0 will be published. It will feature an improved type system, support for automatic serialization, and pattern-matching syntax.
TON Core developers are also offering technical assistance for the BTC Teleport project so that it is seamlessly integrated with the mainnet.
