Small town in India adopts Avalanche blockchain for tamper-proof land records

When a mega and smart city fails or lacks to adopt smart technology, it is meanwhile small towns and districts surprise the entire country by its movement towards the adoption of innovation.

Blockchain technology now secures land record storage in the Indian city of Dantewada located in Chhattisgarh. The district administration joined forces with Zupple Labs from Bengaluru to shift seven lakh land records into Avalanche blockchain.

The project establishes indestructible records which provide secure verification capabilities both to administrative divisions and public residents. Zupple Labs presented all aspects of the development project to Gadgets 360 on Thursday March 6.

The blockchain development took place under the direction of IAS officer Jayant Nahata during his tenure as the chief of Dantewada Zila Panchayat. Nahata recognized that cumbersome processes for obtaining land transactions and approvals took prolonged time because of using paper records.

Manual record handling required multiple weeks to complete before the introduction of inconsistencies between documentation records. Safe and efficient data storage became necessary after the city administration recognized these challenges allowing them to adopt blockchain technology.

The initiative establishes breakthrough technology by modernizing all land records from the 1950s that provides document security and reduces costs and ensures simple access for citizens of Dantewada according to Nahata.

Dantewada received the blockchain-based LegitDoc application from Zupple Labs for its secure data storage needs. The LegitDoc application enables tehsil administrative staff to verify digital land records. All tehsils will receive dedicated kiosks which enable people to fetch necessary documents without delay.

This initiative conforms to the National Blockchain Strategy established by MeitY along with NITI Aayog. The combination of increased transparency with secure ownership records will both decrease land-related conflicts and ensure more fair land governance according to Neil Martis who is the CEO of Zupple Labs.

The development process received its endorsement from Zupple Labs who selected Avalanche to serve this purpose.
