Will Ethereum’s Pectra Upgrade Go Live on April 30?

Ethereum’s big Pectra upgrade is expected to go live on April 30, after successful testing on the Hoodi testnet. The upgrade comes with improved scalability, enhanced wallets, and increased staking caps.

The last test was conducted on March 26, when Ethereum developers deployed Pectra on Hoodi. The test was completed successfully within 30 minutes, confirming that the upgrade is stable and ready for the mainnet launch.

This was a critical step because prior tests on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets had failed owing to synchronization issues and other technical obstacles, such as network congestion. To make the upgrade successful, developers developed Hoodi, which will now serve as Ethereum’s primary test network.

Users can pay gas fees in other cryptocurrencies, not necessarily ETH. This will make it more convenient and flexible to conduct transactions.

The upgrade raises the validators’ staking limit, enhancing Ethereum’s decentralization and security. Transactions will be processed more quickly on the network, which will minimize congestion and lower fees, particularly for rollups.

While Ethereum developers want to activate the update on April 30, they will watch it for 30 days to ensure there are no difficulties. If unanticipated complications arise, Pectra may be postponed until May or June to ensure a smooth deployment.

Ethereum’s largest update in more than a year, and it is anticipated that this will enhance network speed and user experience.
