Mastercard Partners with Humanity Protocol for Private Finance

Key Highlights

  • Mastercard integrates with Humanity Protocol to enable private financial verification using blockchain and zero-knowledge proofs.
  • Users can prove income, assets, or eligibility for loans without sharing personal documents.
  • Partnership marks a major step toward privacy-preserving digital identity and open finance

Mastercard has partnered with Humanity Protocol, a Web3 identity platform, to merge traditional finance with blockchain-based digital identity. The partnership, launching first in the United States, connects Mastercard’s open finance technology with Humanity’s on-chain trust and verification system, allowing users to prove financial credentials instantly, without sharing sensitive data.

Mastercard’s integration, first announced on November 5, will enable Human ID holders to verify their financial eligibility for credit cards, loans, or investments through zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs).

The system replaces traditional verification processes that rely on pay slips, bank statements, or stored customer data.

How it works behind the scenes

The connection links Mastercard’s open finance APIs with Humanity Protocol’s ZKP’s identity layer, allowing users to prove financial details (like income or asset ownership) without exposing raw data.

Through Mastercard’s regulated data-sharing framework, Humanity securely reads verified metrics from connected bank accounts and converts them into cryptographic proofs stored on-chain.

When a user applies for a loan or credit product, they can share a Human ID carrying these proofs instead of documents.

The receiving bank or DeFi app then instantly verifies eligibility without seeing the underlying data, achieving real-time, privacy-preserving onboarding that’s compliant with financial regulations.

Jess Turner, Global Head of Open Finance & Developer Experience at Mastercard said: “Data can be a powerful asset, in many parts of our daily lives.”

A step toward privacy-first finance

The partnership aims to develop privacy-focused financial tools that let users verify key data for banking services without exposing personal information.

Humanity Protocol, whose token (H) has surged over 420% this year, is among Web3’s most closely watched projects. It is currently trading at $0.16, according to CoinMarketCap.

Its Human ID acts as a portable identity across banks, blockchains, and DeFi platforms, allowing users to unlock credit or participate in tokenized real-world asset (RWA) markets with verified credentials, all without disclosing raw personal details.

Use cases for the Mastercard x Humanity partnership include:

  • Instant credit approvals: Proving income or collateral eligibility without sharing financial records.
  • DeFi onboarding: Reducing risk for decentralized platforms through compliant, privacy-based verification.
  • Cross-chain identity portability: Enabling one verified ID to function across multiple financial ecosystems.

Why it matters

For Mastercard, this is another move deeper into blockchain finance, following its stablecoin settlement pilot with Ripple and WebBank last week.

Both initiatives reflect the company’s goal to combine blockchain’s efficiency with compliance-grade security, creating infrastructure for the next era of digital payments and verification.

The partnership also shows a key shift in finance: users want transparency and accessibility without sacrificing privacy. Humanity’s use of ZKPs embodies that principle: proving facts like “I earn above $50,000” or “I meet collateral requirements” without ever revealing the actual data.

As finance grows more surveilled, privacy technology may serve as the bridge between user control and regulatory trust.
