Solflare Launches Self-Custody Crypto Debit Card with Mastercard

Key Highlights

  • Solflare Card lets users spend USDC instantly anywhere Mastercard is accepted while keeping full control of their assets.
  • The card uses self-custody, three-factor authentication, and real-time fraud protections for secure payments.
  • The rollout begins in the UK and EEA, with Google Pay supported at launch and Apple Pay coming soon.

Solflare, a wallet platform on the Solana blockchain, has launched the Solflare Card in partnership with Mastercard. It allows users to spend USDC stablecoins directly from their Solflare wallets. The rollout begins in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA). Over 115,000 people were already on the waitlist before the launch.

According to the release, the Solflare Card works at more than 150 million merchants worldwide. Every payment is signed on the card itself, and users keep full control of their private keys at all times.

The wait is finally over. 💳

Built-in security for peace of mind

The Solflare Card uses three-factor authentication, combining the physical card, a PIN, and biometric verification. It also uses real-time fraud detection and 3DS protection to prevent theft. Google Pay is already supported at launch, with Apple Pay support coming soon.

The card connects directly to a non-custodial wallet, which means Solflare never holds users’ private keys. Funds stay on the blockchain until the moment of payment.

Vidor Gencel, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Solflare, said, “Facilitating instant off-ramping of crypto assets through a debit card represents a paradigm shift. Protected by built-in security measures, Solflare Cards embody crypto’s tonal shift – from speculative asset to everyday currency.”

Bridging crypto and everyday life

Mastercard supports the card as part of its push into digital assets. Christian Rau, Senior Vice President at Mastercard, noted, “By working with partners like Solflare, we empower users through safe, simple and instant access to their crypto assets – truly bridging the gap between digital asset ecosystem and everyday payments.”

Solflare has over 4 million active users with an aim to make crypto easier to spend daily. The new card is part of its plan to combine trading, staking, storage, and now spending in a fast, non-custodial environment.

The Solflare Card is now available in the UK and EEA, with further regions planned soon, allowing users to spend crypto instantly, safely, and globally.
