Key Highlights

Tether Investments today announced a strategic investment in Whop.com, the global internet marketplace connecting creators, consumers, and entrepreneurs.
According to the official announcement, the move highlights Tether’s ongoing effort to extend stablecoin infrastructure into everyday economic activity and facilitate faster, more efficient payments worldwide.
$200M strategic investment
In an X post on Wednesday, Steven Schwartz, co-founder of Whop, stated that Tether made a strategic investment of $200 million at $1.6 billion valuation.
The partnership reflects a step toward building the world’s largest internet market. Tether’s technology and global reach, combined with Whop’s community of next-generation entrepreneurs, aim to provide sustainable income opportunities for creators worldwide.
Connecting global payments with stablecoins
As a result of this partnership, Whop users will get the option to make transactions using USD₮ and USA₮, addressing friction and costs associated with traditional payment systems. With the integration of Tether’s Wallet Development Kit (WDK) into its platform, Whop will enable its users to make global payments efficiently while giving them full control over their money.
The integration of the WDK also enables on-chain settlement and expands Whop’s capabilities as a self-custodial digital wallet. This setup enables features such as lending and borrowing through modern DeFi protocols, creating an internet-native economy that is flexible.
Growing real economic activity
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino highlighted the practical role of stablecoins, stating, “Stablecoins and wallets become most powerful when they are embedded directly into people’s lives, supporting their businesses, activities, families, and individual stories.”
He added, “By integrating Tether’s Wallet Development Kit, WDK, Whop can offer users faster global payments and more reliable financial tools, driving growth, individual, family, and community self-sufficiency, and financial inclusion. Whop is the future of the Internet Markets.”
Recent moves
Tether’s investment comes just days after the stablecoin issuer announced its plans to discontinue its offshore yuan-pegged stablecoin CNH₮. The company cited the shutdown due to low usage and limited long-term demand for the stablecoin. The stablecoin was primarily designed to track the value of the Chinese yuan traded outside mainland China.
Previously, Tether expanded its USA₮ support to Rumble’s non-custodial crypto wallet. The move let the audience tip creators in crypto without relying on traditional payment processors or banks.
What it means
By linking Whop to Tether’s broader ecosystem, over 530 million users and $180 billion in issued digital dollars, the collaboration seeks to expand access to stablecoin-powered payments. The integration enables faster, more reliable payment experiences while onboarding new users across a growing global network.
