Sony Japan Launches 'Mocopi' Wearables for Metaverse

The Japanese Electronics giant, Sony Group has unveiled its latest product, Mocopi, a set of wearable motion trackers designed to transport users into the metaverse via their phones.

Mocopi is made up of six sensors that are worn around the user’s wrists, ankles, head, and hips and are used to animate avatars inside various metaverse apps on Android phones or Apple iPhones. The Mocopi kit will cost ¥49,500 ($360) and will be available in Japan in January.

Mocopi can capture motion without the use of any additional equipment. It can generate virtual characters quickly and transfer character movement data to external 3D animation software.

When using Mocopi for the metaverse and augmented reality, a Sony plugin allows you to export your animations to other software, such as Unity and MotionBuilder.

According to Sony, Mocopi will assist content creators such as VTubers (virtual YouTube streamers) involved in animation and movie production.
